"Iphone fever is not just an adult affliction. It has trickled down to the younger population as well", says Deborah Netburn in an article from The Los Angeles Times. According to a new survey, about forty percent of teenagers have an Iphone. Since it has become such a hot item in the market, this number is exponentially increasing. In the spring of 2011 only seventeen percent of teens said they owned an Iphone. By the fall of 2011 that number had grown to twenty-three percent. In the spring of 2012, the number was increased to thirty-four percent. However it has now reached forty percent. Apple's Iphone has successfully targeted its initial target, the teenage generation. They have market this product very well and it sure shows in the statistics. One of the factors that made the Iphone so successful is its price. You can purchase a new Iphone with a contract for about 200 dollars and if that is out of your price range, then you can purchase the old iphone for an even more affordable price. Apple's analysts expect this number to keep increasing as time goes by. Based on the consumption of Apple's line of "I" products, it is fair to say that this generation is generation "I".

Leaders of the Apple companies have a bright future to look forward to when it comes to IPhone sales. We are living time where our generation cannot live without a smart phone. This called for a mobile company to step up and release a phone that would attract a large audience, and Apple did just that. I personally am one of the teenagers who just recently bought an IPhone and upgraded over my previously owned blackberry. The reason why the IPhone is such a hot commodity because of how easy it is to use. Along with that, the prices are very low for and convenient for most families to afford. George, you made a great point when you mentioned Apple's top target, which is teenagers. This business move is genius because teenagers can very easily manipulate their parents minds and get what they ask for. It looks as if though our generation is looking at an IPhone dominated society in the coming years.
ReplyDeleteForty percent of all teenagers have iPhones, but there are still the Blackberry's, Androids, and many other brands of smartphones, which probably make up a majority of the other sixty percent. I agree with Adam's comment that the iPhone is extremely simple to use, which is why teenagers choose the iPhone over the other smartphones. Either way, they already learn how to use the phone from their friends, parents, or from a previously owned iPod Touch. Children nowadays are even learning from an early age on how to use their parents' iPhones or iPads.

ReplyDeleteIf you think about it, it is pretty disappointing to have so many teens owning an iphone but not owning better things (for example a book or even a ball to play sports with). I am sad to say that I am one of those 40% teens who own an iphone. I cannot help it! It is too amazing to not have! Although I think it is wrong for kids to have cell phones in general, I do not believe that teens are considered children. Even though there would be a raise in my grades and probably help me be more active and maybe even help me socialize more to get ride of my iphone, I would never voluntarily give it up.
ReplyDeleteThis really shows how Apple is growing. Yes, forty percent of teenagers have Iphones, but I do not see what is wrong with that. If Apple can partner with another company to help utilize these Iphones to be used in positive ways, then I see nothing wrong with them. But if people are just buying them for social use, I feel they are going to waste.
ReplyDeleteI am an iphone user myself, and I can safely relate that I love iphones because I enjoy using it all the time. It is true, our generation cannot live without a smartphone because technology is enforced in all areas, including schools and teachings. The Iphone is not only offered to be sold at convenient prices but also it is extremely simple to use, which is why most people, especially teens purchase it. George, I totally agree with you that teenagers are the main targets of the Apple company. The percentage is tremendously high, and there is no question that in the near future our society will be full of iphone users only. The simplicity of the graphics is what the company designers have achieved, and by that success they attract the entire world. Therefore, this business is genius, and it is still continuing to expand rapidly.
ReplyDeleteMe myself am a prime example of the “I” generation. From a young age the beginning of the iPhones had always been a dream for me and looked as if almost impossible to get. As the years went by, however, apple made a huge impact to even the younger generation as you have stated in this blog. It is absolutely true that iPhones sold to the majority of the teenagers today, and as the over time, will conquer the rest. Apple is a huge company and has hooked on this younger generation, and all the have to do is reel them in.
ReplyDeleteGeneration i! Sounds good to me! Although I am not a fan of Apple's iPhone, I can easily say that they have done a great job in creating a phone that can do so much and come in such an affordable price! As George said, Apple has targeted the teenage generation and they have succeeded. It is a great sign that the youth is keeping up with technology and understands how to utilize the technology provided for them. I have to disagree with what Ani mentioned in her comment about how it is disappointing to hear this, and how they own iPhones but not a book or ball to play with. That makes it sound like the second a teenager touches an iPhone he/she will become a couch potato and grades will drop. I want to bring our class for an example, almost all of the class has an iPhone, yet our grades are above average, and the amount of sports and "playing with a ball" we do is more than enough. I cannot see how owning an iPhone will affect any of that. Owning an iPhone, or any smartphone for that matter, is a beneficial investment and is a positive addition to the new generations and the generations to follow!
ReplyDeleteIt is obvious why the Iphone continues to grow in popularity among everyone. It is simply the best phone that the market has to offer. Not only does the Iphone look the best it also performs the best. The Apple Iphone can accomplish any task that another phone can, except in a more efficient manner. The Iphone's easy to use software makes it superior to competing smart phones. It just makes life easier. The Iphone is not just a phone, it is approximately a three by five computer that one could fit in their pocket. From firsthand experience, I can tell you that the Iphone may also be helpful for homework. For example, when I am not home on a Sunday night I can use my Iphone to finish up my blogs. People may argue that any smart phone can do that, however none can do it as efficiently as the Iphone.
ReplyDeleteI think the way that Apple has marketed their products is technical and also ambitious. They have targeted the younger generation, in order for the idea of the iphone to be passed from the parent's personal impression to the influenced child's. But, there are examples of parent's leaving a bad impression, because of their mobile device choice, being iphone, Android, etc. To tell a tale from personal experience, about three weeks ago, my father purchased himself a Samsung Galaxy S3, the iphone's leading competitor, and me being an Android fan gave me the opportunity to inspect the phone. After three minutes of using it, I realized how technologically in-advanced it is, with its first generation s-voice and its poor design qualities. With all those judgments made, I asked my father to purchase me an iphone, and I can truly see why forty percent of teenagers have one. Truly an affordable and revolutionary product.
ReplyDeleteIt is amazing, yet at the same time frightening, how fast and significantly technology has advanced. It is used every minute of every day, whether it be to listen to music or take a photograph. Apple has done very well these past few years with their numbered iphones and ipads. They have brought a radio, a cell phone, a gps, a camera, and a computer all into one small, sleek device. It is no wonder most people have iphones!
ReplyDeleteThis is one example of how technology has taken over many of our lives. We crave to have the best of the best! Elementary students are now proud owners of Iphones, which they are able to use and operate much better than the Iphone owners from the older generation. However, it is difficult to either state this increase of teen Iphone users as a tragedy or a blessing. Children, including me, do not have the opportunity to experience the same outdoor activities or games played by our parents, when computers were not the prime reason to come home early. Nevertheless, smart phones in general, can be used for numerous beneficial reasons. For instance, I downloaded our class book onto my phone, so I can read the book whenever it is most convenient to me. Thus, teenagers need to be aware of all the possible advantages these phones possess, that can improve our daily lives.
